Homemade Red Velvet Ice Cream in both a tub and a dish.

Hi Bold Bakers!

I’m celebrating Valentine’s Day Desserts by sharing my very special Homemade Red Velvet Ice Cream (No Machine) recipe, but you can make it year-round because you’re an adult and nobody can tell you not to. You can easily make it with my base 2-Ingredient Homemade Ice Cream recipe, so let’s get ice cream making!

For this red velvet ice cream recipe, we’re going to use my easy ice cream recipe that doesn’t require an ice cream maker. This might seem daunting, but I promise you it’s super easy and not too time consuming.

And for the swirls, we’ll be using cream cheese frosting. You can buy it at the store, or you can make your cream cheese frosting at home using this cream cheese frosting recipe that only requires three steps. Basically all you need to do is cream together cream cheese and butter using an electric mixer. Then once it’s light and fluffy, add in the powdered sugar and vanilla and whip until it is smooth and creamy.

What You’ll Need To Make Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream

You really only need three tools of the trade to make red velvet ice cream. If you have the following, you should be all set.

  • Stand mixer with whisk attachment
  • Large bowl
  • Measuring cups

How To Make Red Velvet Ice Cream

Now that you’ve assembled what you need to make your own red velvet ice cream, it’s time to start making it. The process is two-fold: making your ice cream and then adding flavors that will give it that delicious red velvet cake taste. Luckily, you can do one right after the other. Here’s how you do it (and don’t forget to get all the measurements down below):

  1. Place sweetened condensed milk in the fridge.
  2. Using stand mixer with whisk attachment, whip cold cream on medium/high until soft peaks form.
  3. Turn off machine and pour cold condensed cream into stand mixer.
  4. Turn speed up to high, whisking until stiff peaks form.
  5. Turn off machine. Place 2 cups of your ice cream base in a large bowl.
  6. Mix in the cocoa powder, cinnamon, red food dye and vanilla extract.
  7. Swirl in cream cheese frosting, maintaining the ripples.
  8. Freeze overnight.

Taste And Consistency

After freezing the ice cream overnight, your final product should have the same rich, decadent taste of red velvet ice cream cake, while being smooth and creamy. If you’ve added in the cream cheese frosting correctly, it should have swirls of white mixed in with the red ice cream.

How Long Does Red Velvet Ice Cream Last?

If you couldn’t finish eating your batch of ice cream, you’re in luck. Red velvet ice cream can last in the freezer anywhere from 3 to 6 months, so if you made it for Valentine’s Day, you can savor the labors of your hard work months later. Once you’re done eating it at room temperature, seal in an airtight container and place in the freezer.
